A first year student of the Presidency University lodged a police
complaint against his seniors alleging them of mentally harassing them.
Sajan Dewan, a boarder of the Hindu Hostel, alleged his seniors were
forcing him to join the Students Federation of India (SFI), the students
wing of the Communist Party of India-Marxist. Fed up with the regular "mental torture", Dewan also attempted to slit his wrist.
The vice chancellor of the University, Malabika Sarkar has asked the registrar to inquire into the incident. "We are looking into the matter and strict action will be taken if it is a case of ragging," Sarkar said.
Meanwhile, the three senior students of the hostel have sought an apology from the victim.
